Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have lifted restrictions for the US military in the Strait of Hormuz. Operation Project Freedom could resume as early as this week.

Gulf countries have lifted restrictions that blocked the American "Project Freedom" in the Strait of Hormuz, a decision that clears the way for the resumption of U.S. ship escort operations in the strait, reports The Wall Street Journal, indicating this could happen "as early as this week," UNN writes.

"Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have lifted restrictions on the U.S. military's use of their bases and airspace, imposed after the start of the American operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz," U.S. and Saudi officials said, "removing an obstacle that had hindered President Trump's efforts to ensure the passage of vessels through the vital waterway."

The Trump administration is now seeking to resume the operation to escort commercial vessels with naval and air support, which it had suspended for 36 hours this week, U.S. officials said. It is unclear exactly when this might happen, although Pentagon officials mentioned timelines starting as early as this week.

"The Trump administration is now seeking to resume 'Project Freedom,' an operation to escort commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as early as this week," the publication states.
