The dispute over the ownership of the East Sea (South China Sea) continues between China and the Philippines. Recently, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. promised to take countermeasures against "dangerous attacks" by Chinese ships and said he was in talks with allies to help protect his country's sovereignty.
This was reported by UNN with reference to Bloomberg.
Details
In the coming weeks, national government agencies will take countermeasures against the Chinese ships, and the Philippines is in "constant" communication with allies and partners, Marcos said in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, March 28
The Philippine leader left the nature of the measures open.
"We are not looking for conflict," Marcos Jr. wrote on Facebook. However, he noted that his country will not be silent, submissive or intimidated. On Monday, China warned the Philippines that bilateral relations are at a crossroads - the government in Manila should be careful.
Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said that Beijing opposes "foreign interference" in the dispute.
We are fully prepared for any emergency and will resolutely protect China's territorial sovereignty, maritime rights and interests
It should be noted that China claims almost the entire South China Sea. Beijing also accuses Philippine vessels of illegally entering Chinese waters.
