The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on the Progress Rocket and Space Center in Samara and the Savasleyka airfield, UNN reports.
During the night of August 15, 2026, units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the Progress Rocket and Space Center in Samara, Samara region, Russian Federation. A hit on the target was recorded, followed by a fire on the facility’s premises
The Progress Rocket and Space Center is one of the key enterprises of the Russian Federation’s rocket and space industry, producing launch vehicles of the Soyuz family. They are used to place Russian military, reconnaissance, and communications spacecraft into orbit. In particular, the Soyuz-2.1b is involved in deploying the Russian Rassvet satellite constellation—a broadband satellite communications system that Russia presents as an analogue of Starlink.
The Progress Rocket and Space Center also produces Earth remote-sensing spacecraft, which the enemy uses for reconnaissance purposes.
