The European Union is likely to maintain sanctions against Russia, despite the Kremlin's demands for the West to ease sanctions as a prerequisite for a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine in the Black Sea. This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), UNN reports.

Analysts point out that earlier, the spokesperson for the European Commission for Foreign Affairs, Anitta Hipper, stated that the EU would consider lifting or changing sanctions against Russia if Russia "ends its unprovoked aggression in Ukraine" and "unconditionally withdraws" all Russian forces from Ukraine.
Hipper's statement is likely a response to the Kremlin's recent demand not to comply with the terms of a ceasefire in the Black Sea with Ukraine until the United States lifts sanctions on the Russian state agricultural bank "Rosselkhozbank" and other undefined financial institutions involved in international trade in food and fertilizers.
At the same time, they also suggest that the United States is likely to require cooperation with the EU to lift some sanctions and restrictions on Russian agricultural, financial and trade structures in order to restore Russia's connection to international markets for agricultural products and fertilizers.

Earlier, the European Commission stated that one of the main conditions for the cancellation or amendment of EU sanctions against Russia would be the withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine.
