The Defense Forces of Ukraine are currently in the second stage of the corps reform — units of the corps set are being formed so that the formations created a year ago have the combat capabilities and firepower to conduct corps-level operations. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated this in an interview with Militarnyi, UNN reports.
Syrskyi explained that the corps reform is divided into three stages. In the first stage, temporary command and control bodies (OTU and OSUV — ed.) were removed, and corps headquarters were created in their place, which took command of the troops subordinated to them. The second stage is currently underway — corps sets are being formed.
Each corps has a certain standard corps set: necessarily an artillery brigade, an anti-aircraft missile regiment, a battalion, and in the future — unmanned systems regiments, reconnaissance battalions, and support battalions. That is, a set that will provide the corps with the capabilities to conduct corps operations. This is what this reform is for,
In the third stage, all corps are to manage their own brigades. According to Syrskyi, this is impossible to do now, when the active front line is 1,200 kilometers long and tends to increase due to the threat from the Russian Federation from the north, from the territory of Belarus.
At the same time, Syrskyi noted the Third Army Corps, commanded by Brigadier General Andriy Biletskyi. It is currently the only one in the Armed Forces of Ukraine that has gathered all subordinated brigades and is fighting with them in its zone of responsibility.
The Third Corps is fighting with its full set. Some corps are 50%, 70%, or 40% staffed and have their units under command,
He called the Lyman direction, for which the Third Corps is responsible, one of the priority areas for the enemy, where they are trying to conduct intensive offensive operations. The same applies to Pokrovsk, Ocheretyne, Oleksandrivka, Kostiantynivka, and partially — Kupiansk.

Biletskyi reported that the Third Corps was formed on the basis of the Third Assault Brigade and the linear brigades that stood next to it on the line of contact. Currently, the corps holds the largest section of the front among all corps, with a length of about 150 kilometers.
