Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal had a phone conversation with European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis, where he said that the energy sanctions imposed by Ukraine do not violate the Association Agreement with the EU, the reaction of Slovakia and Hungary is politicized, and Ukraine is open to cooperation. The parties also discussed Ukraine's receipt of $50 billion from Russian assets and the Ukraine Facility program, the Prime Minister said, UNN reports.
Today we had a telephone conversation with the Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis
According to him, they discussed the issue of energy sanctions and Ukraine's receipt of $50 billion from the use of Russian frozen assets.
He said that the sanctions imposed by Ukraine do not violate the Association Agreement with the EU, and that the reaction of the Slovak and Hungarian sides is extremely politicized and manipulative. Ukraine is always open to constructive cooperation with EU member states, including Hungary and Slovakia. We are convinced that the real threat to these countries comes from Russia, which is trying to avoid fair sanctions through energy blackmail. And we are grateful to the European Commission for its policy of limiting Russian energy resources and supporting EU countries that are actively diversifying their energy flows
According to him, they also discussed the decision of the G7 summit to provide Ukraine with $50 billion from Russian confiscated assets. "Thanks to this important decision, we will be able to get through the next year. We are grateful to the EU and personally to Valdis Dombrovskis for his leadership in this matter. We expect that by the end of this year these funds will be available to Ukraine," the Prime Minister said.
Shmyhal also thanked the European Commission for the EUR 8 billion already received under the Ukraine Facility program. "In total, we expect to receive EUR 16 billion under the program this year and a similar amount next year. This assistance is crucial for ensuring Ukraine's stability and resilience in the face of a full-scale war," the Prime Minister said.
