Oligarch of Uzbek origin Alisher Usmanov has voluntarily suspended his duties as president of the International Fencing Federation. This is reported by the Russian media, UNN reports.

Details

According to Usmanov, this decision was made "in favor of the organization" to ensure the stable operation of the International Fencing Federation.

Recall

Alisher Usmanov is under sanctions by the EU, the US, and Ukraine due to his ties to the Russian authorities. Nevertheless, in October, the 71-year-old businessman ran again for the FIE presidency and received significant support from 103 of the 156 member states, including several EU countries.

On November 30, Usmanov was elected president during a meeting in Tashkent. He received 120 votes, while his opponent, Swedish fencer Otto Druckenberg, received only 26 votes.
