Ukraine calls on Georgia to respect the right of citizens to peacefully protest against the draft law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence." Kyiv is also outraged by the statements of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze about the threat of "Ukrainization." This is stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNN reports.
Details
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is concerned about the deterioration of the internal political situation in Georgia in connection with the consideration of the draft law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" in the Georgian Parliament.
We call on all stakeholders to respect the right of Georgian citizens to peaceful protest and to seek a solution through constructive dialogue
The ministry emphasizes that respect for the rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as the involvement of civil society in addressing socially important issues, are necessary conditions for building the country's European future.
Kyiv also responded to the Georgian prime minister's accusations that the law should protect the country from possible "Ukrainization.
The comments of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, regarding the threat of "Ukrainization" that the draft law is supposedly aimed at countering are outrageous. The use of our country's name in such a derogatory context causes additional damage to Ukrainian-Georgian relations. Russification, not mythical "Ukrainization," is a real threat to Georgia
The Foreign Ministry emphasizes that Ukraine is interested in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere in Georgia, has always strongly supported and continues to support Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
Context
