During the incomplete month of July, over 1.5 million books were destroyed in Ukraine. Russian strikes destroyed printing houses, obliterated publishing warehouses, and hundreds of thousands of textbooks that were supposed to reach Ukrainian schools at the start of the academic year. This was reported by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, as conveyed by UNN.
Details
According to Kyrylo Budanov, Russian missiles destroyed printing houses, burned publishing warehouses, and destroyed hundreds of thousands of textbooks intended for Ukrainian schoolchildren.
This is a deliberate continuation of the cultural genocide that Moscow has been waging against Ukraine for centuries. It was precisely in these July days of 1863 that the Russian Empire issued the Valuev Circular, which banned the printing of most books in the Ukrainian language. Thirteen years later, the Ems Ukaz almost completely destroyed Ukrainian book publishing. The goal has remained unchanged – to deprive Ukrainians of their language, culture, education, and historical memory
He also noted that today Ukraine has its own state and army, and Ukrainian book publishing will be restored.
But Moscow is stuck in its historical swamp and has not understood the main thing. Today, Ukraine has its own state and its own army. Behind every Ukrainian book, behind every printing house, behind every library stand the Defense Forces of Ukraine. We will rebuild the printing houses and print new books. No circulars or decrees have been able to destroy the Ukrainian word. Russian missiles will not be able to do this either
Reminder
The Russian Ministry of Education has included books dedicated to the war in Ukraine in the recommended literature for students. Thus, the authorities are integrating propaganda into the educational process.
