Russia is employing a new tactic of massive strikes on Ukraine, combining large night attacks with daytime ones, which increases the threat to the civilian population. This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), according to UNN.
Details
According to analysts, Russia is now not only launching massive strikes at night but also continuing them during the day, stretching the attacks over time. This approach allows large areas of Ukraine to remain under threat for longer and increases risks for the civilian population.
In particular, during one of the recent attacks on March 23–24, Russian forces used almost 1,000 drones and missiles, distributing the strikes between night and the following day.
Directions of attacks
Analysts note that daytime attacks may be aimed specifically at civilian infrastructure and open spaces, as more people are outside shelters during the day.
Russia's new tactic of prolonged night and day strikes reflects aspects of how Iran launches drones and missiles at Israel and the Persian Gulf countries
Experts explain that a similar model is used for psychological pressure – to force the population to hide in shelters more often and keep the country in constant tension.
The report also indicates that such tactics can either lead to an increase in civilian casualties or force people to respond to alarms more often, which, in turn, will affect daily life and the economy.
ISW emphasizes that Russia is likely trying to maximize the use of limited resources, increasing the effectiveness of strikes due to their duration and unpredictability.
