Romania asks NATO to speed up air defense supplies after a Russian drone hit a house. Bucharest is closing a Russian consulate and expelling a diplomat.

Romania has officially requested NATO to accelerate the delivery of air defense systems. This was stated by Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu in a comment to Politico, reports UNN

This is an unacceptable and flagrant violation of our airspace. We have confirmation that it is a Russian drone,

- said Țoiu.

She added that NATO's top commander, American General Alexus Grynkewich, agreed with Bucharest's previous proposals regarding the redeployment of military equipment to the country. In response to the drone incident, she stated that Romania would ask to expedite its delivery.

As the publication writes, she did not go as far as to claim that Bucharest would invoke Article 4 of the Alliance Treaty, which obliges alliance members to convene for urgent consultations.

Romania is also taking diplomatic measures in response.

We have summoned the Russian ambassador… to inform him that we will close the Consulate General in Constanța, and the Russian Consul General will be expelled

- noted Țoiu.

As a reminder

The Romanian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed that on the night of May 29, a Russian drone violated the country's airspace and crashed into a residential building in the city of Galați. Two people were injured as a result of the incident.

Romanian President Nicușor Dan announced that the Russian Consul General in Constanța will be declared persona non grata, and the consulate will be closed.
