The international community has made it clear that the US must include the issue of the Strait of Hormuz in ceasefire negotiations with Iran, sources familiar with the discussions said. This meeting demonstrated that a coalition of countries considers it necessary to begin preparations for a possible opening of the strait without US involvement.
Military planners from the coalition of countries will meet next week to discuss how their naval forces can be deployed to assist in guarding and demining the strait after the cessation of hostilities. At the same time, the vast majority of coalition members are unwilling to try to open the waterway by force, as they do not consider it a viable solution and do not believe that the crisis can be resolved without Iran's consent, journalists add.
