Kaja Kallas Stated Russia Is at a Deadlock on the Battlefield and Condemned the Use of 'Oreshnik' Missiles. The EU Will Discuss Increasing Pressure on Russia Next Week.

Russia has reached a stalemate on the battlefield, which is why it is resorting to deliberate strikes on the centers of Ukrainian cities.  With these words on her X social media page, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, reacted to the shelling of Ukraine on May 24, UNN reports.

Details

According to Kallas, Russia's strikes on Ukrainian cities are an act of terror directed against the civilian population.

Russia has reached a stalemate on the battlefield, so it is terrorizing Ukraine with deliberate strikes on city centers. These are heinous acts of terror aimed at killing as many civilians as possible

— Kallas stated.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy also commented on reports of Moscow's use of "Oreshnik" intermediate-range ballistic missiles.

Kallas emphasized that these are systems designed to carry nuclear warheads. In her opinion, such actions are a political intimidation tactic and a dangerous game of nuclear brinkmanship.

Reports that Moscow is using "Oreshnik" intermediate-range ballistic missiles — systems designed to carry nuclear warheads — are a political intimidation tactic and reckless nuclear brinkmanship

— she noted.

Kallas added that next week, EU foreign ministers will discuss how to increase international pressure on Russia.

Context

Russian troops regularly attack Ukrainian cities with strike drones, including civilian infrastructure and residential buildings.

On the night of May 24, they carried out one of the largest attacks on Kyiv since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

At night, 15 missiles from "Tu" bombers, volleys of ballistics, up to 5 "Kalibrs," and "Zircons" flew toward the capital simultaneously.

As a reminder

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the use of the Oreshnik ballistic missile against Ukraine. He called such an attack a sign of the stalemate in Russia's aggression.
