The survey showed an increase in the national identity of Ukrainians. 91.4% are proud to be Ukrainians, and identification with Western European cultural traditions has increased to 76.2%.

A poll conducted by the Razumkov Center and the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience showed that 91.4% of respondents are proud to be Ukrainians, UNN reports .

The survey showed that 91.4% of respondents are proud to be Ukrainian, and there is a steady increase in the percentage of people who deeply identify themselves as Ukrainians. For example, pride in national symbols increased from 62.4% in 2000 to 91.4% in 2024. However, this pride has been trending downward in recent years, which may indicate changes in public perception and the political climate.

There is also a shift in citizens' identification from the local to the national level. In particular, the percentage of people who identify themselves primarily with Ukraine increased from 31.3% in 2006 to 52.8% in 2024.

Changes in the perception of what it means to be part of the Ukrainian nation are also a key aspect of public opinion. For example, the definition of the nation as "all citizens of Ukraine" increased from 43.1% in 2006 to 46.2% in 2024, showing a greater inclusiveness.

The public expresses strong support for democratic forms of governance. The percentage of those who consider democracy important has increased from 51.7% in 2010 to 61.2% in 2024, which confirms the desire for transparency and participation in government.

According to surveys, Ukrainians increasingly identify themselves with Western European cultural traditions. While in 2006 this figure was 56.3%, by 2024 it had risen to 76.2%. On the other hand, identification with Russian cultural traditions has significantly decreased, falling from 16.1% in 2006 to 3.7% in 2024.

Ukrainians believe that Western European cultural traditions will dominate in Ukraine in the next 20-25 years. In 2023, 55.2% of respondents predicted this trend, and this figure remained stable in 2024 (54.8%).

Survey information

The survey, conducted by the Razumkov Center's sociological service from June 6 to 12, 2024, was part of the USAID/ENGAGE activity, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Pact in Ukraine.

The face-to-face survey was conducted in Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovs'k, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhzhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Kherson, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi regions and the city of Kyiv (in Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kherson regions - only in the territories controlled by the government of Ukraine and not subject to hostilities).

The theoretical sampling error is no more than 2.3%. Restrictions on the survey were caused by the Russian aggression, including the forced evacuation of citizens.

Recall

The Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation presented a study that showed that the majority of Ukrainians (53%) feel little belonging to the European community. The survey showed that the sense of European identity is growing among younger people.
