Details

In an interview with the Russian TV channel RT, Lukashenka noted that the parties should agree on the parameters of the agreements before a possible contact at the highest level.

We are ready for a deal, but it must be prepared in such a way that it reflects the interests of both the United States and Belarus

– Lukashenka stated.

He added that the potential agreement should cover a wider range of issues than just the lifting of sanctions.

We have many more issues to resolve, and this is the subject of a grand deal

– he noted.

Context

Lukashenka is an ally of Vladimir Putin and supported the Russian invasion of Ukraine, although Belarusian troops did not directly participate in the hostilities.

In March, Trump's special representative John Cole stated that a possible visit of Lukashenka to the US could take place in the near future.

Belarus is under Western sanctions due to human rights violations and support for Russia in the war against Ukraine.
