The brethren of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra managed to save ancient icons and relics from the territory of the cultural sanctuary, which came under enemy attack on the night of June 15. This was reported by Bishop Avraamiy, according to UNN.
Details
According to him, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was among the sites that "were affected by this large-scale attack."
First and foremost, an urgent evacuation of the sanctuary and liturgical items, ancient icons, antimensions, and other relics was organized, which hold not only ecclesiastical but also national and universal human value. Thanks to the coordinated actions of the Lavra brethren, everyone involved, as well as the selfless work of rescuers and fire units, it was possible to minimize threats to people and preserve the relics
He emphasized that "every bit of damage caused to such a place is a painful loss not only for believers but for all people who realize the significance of spiritual, cultural, and historical heritage for future generations."
We call upon the international community, representatives of religious organizations, cultural institutions, and all people of goodwill to pay attention to the need to protect the spiritual and cultural heritage of Ukraine in the conditions of the ongoing war. The preservation of such sanctuaries is a shared responsibility to history, the present, and future generations
