In a sign of the trip's importance, Chinese leader Xi Jinping dispatched a high-ranking official to lead the welcoming delegation — Chinese Vice President Han Zheng.
The publication notes that Han is widely known as Xi Jinping's representative for diplomatic affairs and attended Trump's inauguration last year. He is a former member of the Politburo Standing Committee, the top governing body of the Communist Party of China.
According to the White House, other officials on site include U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue, his Chinese counterpart, Ambassador to the U.S. Xie Feng, and China's Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu.
The U.S. President will also be greeted by 300 Chinese youths in identical blue-and-white uniforms marching along the tarmac with Chinese flags, as well as a military guard of honor and a military band.
Xi Jinping will officially receive Trump on Thursday morning local time.
