Ukraine has won its first medal at the 2026 European Fencing Championships - Alina Komashchuk secured the "bronze," the Ministry of Youth and Sports reported on Wednesday, according to UNN.

The Ukrainian Olympic champion, as noted, ascended the podium of the continental championship for the second consecutive year, winning the seventh European Championship medal of her career.
On her way to the medal in Antony, France, Alina Komashchuk won four out of six bouts in the group stage and defeated Zuzanna Cieślar of Poland (15:11) in the round of 64. She then overcame Despina Georgiadou of Greece and Sarah Noutcha of France with the same score. In the semifinals, the 33-year-old Odesa native lost to Lucía Martín-Portugués of Spain (7:15).
The European Championships will continue until June 21.
