Ukraine counts on the support of Great Britain in implementing the project to supply Gripen fighters and Meteor missiles, as well as on the continuation of ammunition supplies for F-16s, including in light of the President's task to protect the Ukrainian maritime corridor from Russian attacks. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Acting Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yevhenii Khmara reported that he held his first conversation with the newly appointed UK Minister of Defense Wes Streeting, whom he congratulated on his appointment and thanked for the systematic support of Ukraine.
"We are building a long-term and mutually beneficial defense partnership with Great Britain. Ukraine is grateful for the unwavering support. For our part, we are ready to share our experience of modern warfare and solutions that have already proven effective on the battlefield," Khmara noted.
According to him, the main topic of the talks was the strengthening of Ukrainian air defense.
"We count on support for the project to supply Gripen aircraft and Meteor missiles for them," the acting minister emphasized.
He noted that this is important for countering Russian aircraft and protecting our people.
"It is also critically important to continue the supply of ammunition for F-16 aircraft. One of the tasks set by the President is to protect the 'grain corridor' from Russian attacks. For this, Ukraine needs strong air capabilities," Khmara stated.
Special attention during the conversation was paid to means of combating Russian attack drones.
"A particular focus is missiles to counter 'Shaheds.' Russia is increasing strikes with jet drones. Quick decisions by partners can directly save the lives of Ukrainians," he noted.
In addition, the parties discussed the possibility of purchasing Ukrainian drones for the needs of the Defense Forces, including interceptor drones, middle strike and deep strike drones, under the ERA Loan program using revenues from frozen Russian assets.
