MP from the Servant of the People party Halyna Tretiakova has withdrawn for revision the draft law No. 11104, which proposes criminal liability for unauthorized representation of Ukraine in international negotiations, UNN reports.
"Ok. I withdraw it for revision," Tretyakova wrote on Facebook.
Context
The Verkhovna Rada registered a draft law on amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine to establish liability for misappropriation of state functions.
It was initiated by MPs Halyna Tretyakova and Mariana Bezuhla.
The draft law proposes to supplement the Criminal Code of Ukraine with a provision criminalizing high treason in the form of misappropriation of state functions, namely representation of Ukraine's interests by unauthorized persons.
In a commentary to Suspilne , MP Tretyakova explained that Ukraine should apply the principles of international politics based on the principle of One Voice.
"In times of war, when we need weapons and humanitarian aid, we must have one voice. At the same time, we have many cases when different politicians, different officials, without the authority to conduct international negotiations with foreign governments, can take on the representation of Ukraine even not in the context of the preamble to the Constitution, or our Constitution, where we have chosen to join the European community and NATO," Tretyakova explained.
However, the initiative was criticized, in particular, by Tretyakova and Bezuhla's fellow MP, Vitaliy Bezgin, and the head of the Center for Civil Liberties, Oleksandra Matviychuk.
