Hezbollah claims Iran is demanding Lebanon's inclusion in any agreement with the US. A ceasefire document could be signed as early as this coming Sunday.

Hezbollah is confident that Iran will insist on including Lebanon in any deal with the US, one of the group's leading politicians said on Friday amid growing expectations of a possible negotiated solution between Tehran and Washington. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

Hezbollah, founded by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in 1982, entered the regional conflict on Tehran's side on March 2, opening fire on Israel, which triggered an Israeli offensive that has killed thousands in Lebanon.

Iranian officials have repeatedly insisted on an end to hostilities in Lebanon as part of any broader deal.

"If a deal happens, we have full confidence in the Islamic Republic… we are confident that it will insist that any deal includes the issue of Lebanon,"

- Hezbollah politician Hassan Fadlallah said in an excerpt of a speech broadcast by the group's al-Manar TV channel.

Israeli forces have occupied parts of southern Lebanon, where Lebanon's National News Agency reported new airstrikes on several towns and villages on Friday.

A Western source said a memorandum between the US and Iran to end the war in the Gulf could be signed as early as Sunday. According to the source, the text of the document is still being finalized, and Iran insists that the deal must also provide for a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.

Last week, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, Mohsen Rezaei, said Hezbollah had "made great sacrifices" in the war and that Lebanon "will be an integral part of any deal and any truce," the semi-official Mehr agency reported.

Addition

The war in Lebanon continues despite several truces announced by the US, which is mediating negotiations between the governments of Lebanon and Israel.

Hezbollah is not a party to the negotiations and demands that the Lebanese government withdraw from this process.

Hezbollah also rejected a US-backed plan announced last week that called for a ceasefire by the group and the withdrawal of its fighters from southern Lebanon.
