The Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) of the NSDC has pointed out that Russia is once again resorting to nuclear blackmail and information provocations around the Zaporizhzhia NPP, while the head of the CCD, Andriy Kovalenko, noted that the enemy is trying to use lies to cover up both its own strike on a high-rise building in Romania and the fact of the attack on the Chernobyl NPP sarcophagus in 2025, UNN reports.

"Russia is again resorting to nuclear blackmail and information provocations around the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Occupation resources and Kremlin-controlled media are spreading claims about an alleged 'Ukrainian drone' strike on the turbine hall of power unit No. 6 of the ZNPP. The Defense Forces of Ukraine did not carry out a strike on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The AFU acts exclusively within the framework of international humanitarian law, in particular Article 56 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which expressly prohibits attacks on nuclear facilities," the NSDC CCD stated on social media on Saturday.
As noted by the CCD, "the Russian side traditionally provides no real evidence." "The AFU does not have fiber-optic controlled drones with such a range, nor drones with a shaped-charge warhead weighing 5–6 kg, which would be necessary to penetrate the hole mentioned by the occupiers," the statement says.
"With such statements, the Kremlin seeks to prepare the information groundwork for further provocations at the nuclear facility. Systematic manipulations around the ZNPP are part of the policy of nuclear terrorism that Russia is carrying out against Ukraine and the entire world," the NSDC CCD emphasized.
Statement by the Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation
The head of the NSDC Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, stated: "Russia, which seized the ZNPP in 2022, regularly launched drones at Nikopol from the station's territory and created constant provocations, is now lying that Ukraine attacked its own nuclear plant with a drone. It provides no evidence of this. And it is trying to use these lies to cover up both its own strike on a high-rise building in Romania and the fact of the attack on the Chernobyl NPP sarcophagus in 2025."
"Ordinary liars and falsifiers who cover up their own failures with their own provocations," Kovalenko noted.
Statement by the Regulator
In connection with the dissemination by Russian propagandists of information regarding the alleged drone damage to the turbine hall of power unit No. 6 of the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate reports the following. IAEA experts present at the ZNPP as part of the Agency's permanent monitoring mission must verify the disseminated information and report the results of the verification. For an objective assessment, the occupation administration is obliged to provide international experts with full access to the turbine hall of power unit No. 6
As the regulator pointed out, "according to data from the ZNPP external crisis center (located in Ukraine-controlled territory) and data from the international radiation monitoring system IRMIS (IAEA), no changes in the radiation situation in the area of the ZNPP location have been observed."
"We note that all current extraordinary events and threats to nuclear and radiation safety at the ZNPP that arise are a consequence of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the occupation of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant. Recall that the Russian occupiers have repeatedly staged various 'fire shows' with UAVs, missiles, etc., on the industrial site of the ZNPP, trying to accuse Ukraine of creating threats to nuclear and radiation safety. However, all these attempts proved unsuccessful and received no confirmation," the statement of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate says.
The regulator also emphasized that "the occupation administration must bear full responsibility for ensuring the physical protection and integrity of the structures of the Zaporizhzhia NPP." "Any damage caused to the Ukrainian NPP during the period of its occupation will be compensated at the expense of reparations from the aggressor country," the statement reads.
In addition, the regulator pointed out that the results of the investigation into the previous fake report by the ZNPP occupation administration about an alleged drone attack on the external dosimetry laboratory can be found at the link.
Reminder
The Defense Forces denied Russia's claims of an alleged strike on the sixth power unit of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, as stated on Saturday by the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine.
