HBO trademarks in Ukraine have been seized as part of enforcement proceedings due to non-compliance with a court ruling to pay compensation to Lyudmyla Ignatenko. This was reported by the law firm Mamunya IP, which represented the plaintiff's interests, according to UNN.
The case concerns the unauthorized use of the names of Lyudmyla Ignatenko and her late husband, Vasyl Ignatenko, in the miniseries "Chernobyl."
According to the lawyers, as early as November 2025, the Supreme Court finally confirmed the violation of the plaintiff's right to the use of her name and awarded her 500,000 UAH in moral damages.
However, according to the plaintiff's representatives, HBO has still not complied with the court's decision and has not paid the awarded funds.
In connection with this, a private enforcement officer has seized the HBO trademarks registered in Ukraine.
The law firm noted that the next step in the event of continued non-compliance could be the forced sale of these assets at auction.

The lawsuit against HBO was filed in 2020. Lyudmyla Ignatenko stated that she did not give consent for the use of her name and the name of her late husband in a work of fiction.
She also claimed that certain scenes featuring the character based on her do not correspond to real events and could create a false impression of her.
Vasyl Ignatenko was a firefighter who participated in the cleanup of the Chernobyl disaster and died from radiation exposure. His story became one of the central plotlines of the HBO series "Chernobyl."
