French actor has starred in 200 films, but currently faces 20 accusations: Depardieu awaits trial for sexual harassment.
UNN reports with reference to Reuters and Der Standard.
French film star Gérard Depardieu will appear in court on Monday on charges of sexually assaulting two women on the set of the film "Les volets verts" in 2021. Details reveal the manners of the film star, who, according to one of the actresses, behaved like a "king" on set.
One of the two plaintiffs, a set decorator, now 55, reported that Depardieu suddenly shouted during filming in a Parisian palace that he needed a fan due to the heat to start working – sexually.
Allegedly, an hour later, he violently grabbed the decorator, and later pressed her thighs against a wall. A similar complaint was also filed by an assistant director due to a similar scene.
Depardieu's lawyer, Jérémie Assous, stated that the case is based on "false accusations" against his client.
In total, over 20 women accuse the star actor of gross misconduct, including rape.
In some cases, the statute of limitations has expired. The most serious case will be heard in separate criminal proceedings: young actress Charlotte Arnould accuses Depardieu of raping her at his Parisian villa in 2018.
Reference
Gérard Depardieu is one of the most popular French actors, having starred in over 200 films, with an enormous range of roles.
Recently, the 76-year-old, 130-kilogram Depardieu has faced a growing number of sexual harassment allegations. The actor consistently denies them.
Mobilization against violence against women
Depardieu's trial could become the most high-profile #MeToo case in French courts amidst a protest movement against sexual violence.
It should be recalled that in September 2024, demonstrations were held in France in support of Gisèle Pelicot and victims of rape. In 30 French cities, thousands of women and men took to the streets to express support for the 72-year-old woman who had been raped by her husband and dozens of men for many years.
In the high-profile French case, Dominique Pelicot was sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping his ex-wife Gisèle Pelicot. In addition to Pelicot's husband, 50 other men guilty of rape and sexual crimes were found guilty during the trial.
Recall
Andriy Bilous, who was accused of harassment, is returning to work at the Young Theater. He was previously suspended, and the police initiated criminal proceedings under the article "sexual violence."
