Lange noted that the European Union is fulfilling its obligations under the trade agreement with the US, while Washington is violating them.
"Trump's plan to introduce 25 percent tariffs on cars from the EU is unacceptable. The European Parliament continues to adhere to the agreements reached in Scotland and is working on finalizing the relevant legislation. While the EU fulfills its obligations, the American side continues to violate them,"
The Chairman of the Committee on International Trade called the American administration's steps "clear unpredictability" and urged the EU to maintain a clear position.
"We have seen such arbitrary steps before, even regarding partners. The EU must now maintain a clear and firm position," he wrote.

On May 1, US President Donald Trump announced that he would increase tariffs on passenger cars and trucks from the European Union to 25%. However, the new rules will not apply to European cars and trucks if they are manufactured at plants in the US.
