The German Football Association (DFB) announced the termination of the contract with Julian Nagelsmann after the unsuccessful performance of the German national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Today, representatives of the management and supervisory board of DFB GmbH & Co. KG, on the recommendation of DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, unanimously decided to terminate the contractual relationship with head coach Julian Nagelsmann with immediate effect
Julian Nagelsmann had already addressed the federation's leadership the day before during a conference, asking to be relieved of his duties after the unsuccessful performance of the German national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is taking place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. This request was granted by the company's representatives and the supervisory board.

Furthermore, during today's meeting of management and supervisory board representatives, sporting director Andreas Rettig announced that for personal reasons he will not extend his contract, which runs until the end of the year. He had already informed the DFB president of this decision before the start of this year's FIFA World Cup.

Julian Nagelsmann took charge of the German national team in July 2023. Under Nagelsmann's leadership, the German national team played 37 matches, achieving 23 wins, 6 draws, and suffering 8 defeats.
Nagelsmann led "Die Mannschaft" to Euro 2024, where they lost in the quarter-finals to the future champion - the Spanish national team, and this year led the team to the 2026 World Cup, where they lost to the Paraguayan national team in a penalty shootout already in the round of 16.
