The Verkhovna Rada has received the Law, signed by the President of Ukraine, which expands the powers of local self-government bodies to support Ukraine's security and defense sector. This was reported by UNN with reference to the parliamentary press service.
Details
This law provides for:
- granting powers to village, settlement, and city councils to make decisions on providing financial and material support to the security and defense sector during a state of war or emergency, and the approval of local programs to support the security and defense sector (except for the provision of firearms, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices);
- granting powers to the executive bodies of village, settlement, and city councils regarding:
- the preparation, submission for approval, organization of execution, and implementation during a state of war or emergency of local programs to support the security and defense sector, including programs to strengthen the state's defense capability and security and to facilitate the logistical support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (except for the provision of firearms, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices);
- the preparation, submission for approval, organization of execution, and implementation in accordance with the law of local programs for the construction, arrangement, and maintenance of engineering and fortification structures.
