The Brovary city community has begun to solve the problem of providing wheelchairs to people who need them but are unable to get them through government programs. Deputy Mayor Larysa Vynohradova told UNN about this in an exclusive commentary .
The situation is such that there are practically no seats. There is one in the territorial social service center. As a result of the meeting, we came to the conclusion that we need to form a request from primary medicine and the Rehabilitation Department of the Brovary Clinical Hospital by Friday (December 13 – Ed.), and the territorial center will also form its own, which we need in order to introduce this social service
She added that the community plans to provide the possibility of providing wheelchairs for rent free of charge for those who need them at the time of discharge from the hospital or for home use.
help from the Twin Cities
To solve this problem, the Brovary City Council plans to appeal to international partners. The request will contain clear characteristics of the required seats: dimensions, weight for which they are designed. Other rehabilitation tools, such as sticks and tripods, will also be included in the request.
The city authorities of Brovary plan to appeal to the Twin Cities in Poland-Krasnik, Gniezno and Grodzisk, as well as to the German cities of Erlangen, Gena and Wetzlar, which actively help the community. It is possible that the French city of Funtenay-sous-Bois will also apply.
"Now the need is being formed, approximately, as the chief Doctors of primary and secondary care voiced, we need at least 50 seats. After all, there are people who, without registering a disability, cannot get a chair from the state. They just stay at home," Larisa Vinogradova explained.
The deputy mayor also drew attention to the problem when elderly people after strokes or other diseases do not register a disability due to lack of need. They need help, but they cannot take advantage of government programs due to bureaucratic restrictions.

Earlier UNN reported that the city government of Brovary is developing a program for 4-5 years to improve the accessibility and comfortable movement of people with disabilities. In particular, the Brovarsky community plans to equip special lifts for people with disabilities in apartment buildings. According to the Mayor Igor Sapozhko, this option is optimal for old apartment buildings of the community.
Olena Hakobyan , an adviser to the mayor of Brovary, told UNNthat all state institutions in Brovary are accessible to people with disabilities. All major shopping centers are equipped with ramps, elevators, and hygiene rooms for people with disabilities. Various commercial institutions and organizations have become more likely to seek advice on how to properly equip or redo entrances so that they are accessible to people with disabilities.
In addition, a project on diving rehabilitation is being implemented in the city for Ukrainian military personnel who lost their limbs defending Ukraine from Russian invaders, family members of the victims, internally displaced persons and veterans.
