Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is once again running for the highest office in the land, spent $4.9 million on legal fees in March, and now he may not have enough money to pay for lawyers. Bloomberg reported this on Sunday, citing the financial statements of Trump's election campaign, UNN reports.
Details
The accounts that the former American leader uses to pay for lawyers' services have $6.8 million left in them. This may force Trump to look for new sources of funding. Currently, he pays for legal services through the Save America political action committee, which can accept donations from donors. Since January 2023, Save America has spent more than $62 million on legal fees.
The National Committee of the Republican Party has already refused to pay Trump's legal fees, the newspaper adds. The former US president may try to raise more money from his donors or raise his own money, Bloomberg adds.
Trump is involved in several cases, including the storming of the Capitol, possession of classified documents, and falsification of financial documents.
Context
In January of this year, a New York jury issued a verdict that Trump must pay $83.3 million to writer Elizabeth Jean Carroll, who accused the former American leader of harassment and defamation. In February, the court found Trump guilty of fraud in the valuation of the Trump Organization's assets and ordered him to pay about $454 million, including interest.
