In the temporarily occupied Mariupol, the occupiers have reopened the railway station after it was completely destroyed, which may allow the Russians to shorten the logistics route by almost 300 km. This was reported by the adviser to the mayor of the city Petro Andriushchenko during a telethon, UNN reports.
"Fortunately, so far we have seen diesel locomotives coming in and out of Russia. It's not clear why, but yesterday we saw the railway station in Mariupol reopened after it was completely destroyed. The only diesel train with two cars from Mariupol to Volnovakha for civilians was announced. What does this mean? It means that the railroad has been reopened, the engineering work has been completed, it is connected, in particular, our information confirms this, and it also confirms that there will be no use of any civilian railroad," Andriushchenko said.
He added that freight trains are expected to arrive in Mariupol in the coming days.
"There is some reason, unknown to us, why the Russians have not launched the freight train yet, but they will definitely launch it, at least technically everything is ready. When this happens, it will solve the logistics issue for the Russians very dramatically, especially considering Kurakhove and Volnovakha, which is a minus of almost 300 km of travel. In terms of time, depending on what they are transporting, they will save from a day to a week, which is a pretty strong solution, in fact, a logistical breakthrough," Andriushchenko added.
Recall
The occupiers are actively building fortifications on the Mariupol-Donetsk highway and are trying to build a railroad from Rostov to Mariupol. The new railway line should simplify Russian military logistics and reduce dependence on the Crimean bridge.
