The SBU has detained an IT specialist who waited 12 years for activation to conduct strikes on Kyiv. He was preparing an assassination attempt on the head of the State Emergency Service and collecting data on politicians.

Military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a sleeper agent of the FSB in Kyiv, whom the hostile special service had kept in "standby mode" for 12 years. This was reported by the SBU press service, according to UNN.

Details

As the investigation revealed, since February of this year, he had been preparing coordinates for a precision missile strike by the Ruscists on Kyiv, specifically targeting the residence of the Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

According to the case files, the FSB's assignments were carried out by an IT specialist from Mykolaiv recruited by the enemy. It was established that Russian intelligence services engaged him for cooperation back in 2014 and "mothballed" him for future tasks,

- the report says.

Recently, the Russian special service "activated" the agent and instructed him to move to Kyiv to collect data on public figures against whom the RF was preparing sabotage and terrorist attacks.

The enemy's "sights" were set on prominent politicians and representatives of the command of Ukraine's security and defense sector.

Following FSB instructions, the agent was to track the residential addresses and movement routes of potential "targets" and report this to a handler in Moscow.

To fulfill the hostile assignment, the suspect made new acquaintances, whom he then used "blindly" to obtain intelligence information.

Very often, the perpetrator acted under the cover of providing private services for computer system administration and technical maintenance. He would then extract the "necessary" information under the guise of casual conversation.

Later, he involved another IT specialist—a resident of Odesa—in the subversive activities.

Together with his "colleague," they created an entire network of informants who "leaked" data on the location of Ukrainian troops.

Officers detained the agent in a rented apartment in Kyiv. Simultaneously, his accomplice was detained in Odesa. During searches, smartphones containing evidence of work for the FSB were seized from the detainees,

- the SBU added.

Investigators served them with notices of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

The perpetrators are in custody. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
