Restoration of the region and training in prosthetics: Mykolaiv region and Japan sign Memorandum of Cooperation

Mykolaiv Oblast of Ukraine and Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to assist in the training of prosthetics and rehabilitation specialists.

Ukraine and Japan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on assistance in reconstruction based on the Creative Reconstruction Concept. This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, according to UNN.

Details

The document was signed by the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Vitaliy Kim and the head of the Hyogo Prefecture in Japan Saito Motohiko. The memorandum stipulates that the Hyogo Prefecture will train specialists from Mykolaiv region in the field of prosthetic rehabilitation.

We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people. We have set up a committee consisting of experts from various fields to discuss the possibilities of applying our experience in Ukraine. At the beginning of our cooperation, a rather important step is to agree on a program to introduce training for prosthetic rehabilitation specialists

- said the prefectural governor.

Saito Motohiko said that in order to properly ensure the implementation of this project, it is necessary to attract official support from the governments of both countries.

At the same time, Kim emphasized that Mykolaiv region has great potential for recovery and development, despite the fact that there are significant consequences of the Russian invasion.

Now, almost two years into the war, Mykolaiv region is one of the most affected in Ukraine. The residential sector, educational, medical and critical infrastructure, roads and bridges have been damaged. However, the region has significant potential, and we are interested in doing everything well, correctly and for many years to come

- said the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

Addendum 

The head of the region emphasized that promising areas of cooperation could include energy and construction, reconstruction of healthcare facilities, provision of drinking water to the region's residents, etc.

It is noted that  there is already an example of successful cooperation with Japan. In particular, with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan, Mykolaiv region was provided with two water purification plants and generators for their operation, as well as more than 500 fire extinguishers worth $400,000.

To recap,

Japan has launched a new program that recognizes some evacuees, including Ukrainians, as refugees, offering them language lessons, assistance in organizing their daily lives, and financial support.
