In 2023, the athletes of Odesa region impressed the world with their endurance, strength, and high professionalism: they won medals at international competitions and set records at various tournaments. This year, the Dnipro Hockey Club from Kherson resumed playing in the Ukrainian Hockey Championship at the Odesa Sports Palace. In addition, the sports complex of the Odesa Regional School of Higher Sports Skills "Olimpiyets", which had been out of operation for more than a year after the completion of major overhauls due to numerous deficiencies, was reopened. The school is currently operating as usual. Also, on December 14, for the first time in recent years, the Olimpiyets hosted the Odesa Oblast Athletics Championships.
"Negotiations are ongoing to hold Ukrainian championships and training camps for Ukrainian national teams in Olympic and Paralympic sports at Olimpiyets. In 2024, it is planned to train athletes from Odesa region for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris on the basis of Olimpiyets," the OBA said.
The military administration added that today, athletes from Odesa region who have achieved high results in international competitions, as well as their coaches, are already receiving increased financial assistance. At the same time, in 2024, it is planned to increase support for the development of sports in Odesa region, which will be distributed among various physical culture and sports entities on a differentiated basis, meaning that the best and most effective will receive assistance.
In addition, the OBA announced the continuation of support for high-class athletes. In particular, candidates for participation in the Olympic and Paralympic Games will receive financial assistance in the amount of UAH 20 thousand per month.
