New York City police are investigating a video showing three people in protective suits and wearing headlamps emerging from a manhole near Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. NBC News reports, according to UNN.

The incident occurred at around 4:00 a.m. on August 18 at the intersection of 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue. The video was posted on TikTok on Friday.
Police said they were aware of the incident, but no arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing. The city's Department of Environmental Protection also inspected the sewer system and found no infrastructure damage.
Authorities emphasized that entering the sewer system is illegal and dangerous because of the possible presence of toxic gases, unstable surfaces, the risk of flooding, and other hazards.
Similar incidents were recorded in New York in May. At the time, cameras captured groups of men emerging from manholes in different parts of the city, and some of them were carrying shovels. Law enforcement officials suspected that they might have been searching for valuables, but said there was no immediate threat to the public.
Police have not yet established whether the new case is connected to the May incidents. At the same time, the appearance of the people in the video is similar: they were also wearing protective clothing and apparently using headlamps.
