Czech Cabinet urged to introduce smartphone use restrictions in schools - Media

About 30 experts and organizations have called on the Czech government to introduce widespread regulation of smartphone use in schools. In their opinion, along with restrictions, the state should also provide long-term education for parents and students. This was reported by Michaela Mlychkova-Jelinkova, founder of the Digibalanc association, according to UNN with reference to "Radio Prague".

According to the signatories, the Czech Republic is the only country in the EU that has not yet approved or developed a relevant regulatory act at the national level. The signatories propose, for example, the creation of an interdisciplinary professional commission that would prepare the regulatory act and ensure its effective functioning.

Another proposal is a legal measure that would restrict the use of smartphones in school, including during breaks, throughout primary school.

"In primary school, phones should be completely banned; for older students, their use is permissible only at the teacher's discretion for educational purposes," the appeal states.

In February, the Czech Ministry of Education sent schools a methodology for students' use of mobile phones. It contains principles for implementing a new approach to school rules and practical examples.
