Members of the Abkhazian parliament supported the resignation of President Aslan Bzhania with 28 votes in favor. The decision was preceded by protests over an investment agreement with Russia and the seizure of government buildings.

It was a secret ballot vote, with 28 MPs voting in favor, one against, and two ballots being invalidated.
At night it became known that Bjania had agreed to resign on the condition that Vice President Badra Gunba would take his place before the elections and that protesters against the ratification of the investment agreement would leave the government complex.
The parliament and presidential administration buildings were occupied last week, demanding Bzhaniy's resignation.
