President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is considering the possibility of dismissing the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. This is reported by UNN citing Financial Times.
Details
As the publication notes, the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by Syrskyi became a catalyst for protests that began in Ukraine after the dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. According to a high-ranking official from the President's Office, who wished to remain anonymous, Volodymyr Zelenskyy began considering the issue of dismissing Syrskyi only after protests against Fedorov's dismissal escalated into a large-scale campaign against Syrskyi on Friday evening.
Additionally
Oleksandr Syrskyi became the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in February 2024 after the scandalous dismissal of his popular predecessor Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who currently holds the position of Ukraine's Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Unlike Zaluzhnyi, who did not serve in Soviet times, Syrskyi was raised in Soviet military traditions. Due to his willingness to accept heavy losses to achieve military goals, he has earned the nickname "Butcher" among some military personnel.
Recall
According to the Financial Times, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has no idea how exactly he intends to win. Syrskyi's theory of victory simply consists of holding out as long as possible and mobilizing more people.
