Yermak denied information about “negotiations” with Russia to stop strikes on energy facilities: what is really happening

The head of the OP denied the FT's information about Ukraine's negotiations with Russia on energy infrastructure. He explained that only individual agreements through intermediary countries are possible, as was the case with the grain deal.

Ukraine does not conduct any negotiations with Russia . Regarding energy security, an intermediary country may conclude agreements with Kyiv and Moscow separately. This was stated by the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, in an interview during a telethon, a correspondent of UNN reports.

Yermak commented on the Financial Times news that Ukraine and Russia are allegedly in preliminary talks to stop strikes on each other's energy infrastructure.

"These negotiations are exactly what they say (Financial Times - ed.), that they are supposedly negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, which is definitely not true. What is going on? We held thematic conferences. The first conference was on energy security, it was online. But the co-organizer was Qatar. When this conference took place, we set out the principles for this item of the Peace Formula. There was a very large number of countries from different continents," said Yermak.

He emphasized that all these thematic conferences were held  without Russia.

"When the meeting was over, we fixed the principles. After that, we said that if today Qatar, for example, or another country is ready to implement these agreements through agreements with Ukraine separately and, for example, separately with Russia, they are welcome," Yermak said.

He noted that this is the same situation as with food security, when there was a grain corridor that existed for a year. Yermak reminded that there were two agreements at that time - one Turkey-UN-Ukraine, the other Turkey-UN-Russia.

"It was very important for us that the conference was held and that everyone agreed on the principles. If someone is ready after that, if they feel that they are ready to implement the achievements of this conference within this framework, then they are welcome. So far, no one has any agreements. If there are such agreements, Ukraine is ready to consider them. After all, this is in line with the principles laid down in the Peace Formula," Yermak said.

He emphasized that Ukraine has no negotiations with Russia.

"All these conversations may be happening, as a possible reaction after those thematic conferences, but I can say for sure that Ukraine is not negotiating with Russia," Yermak said.
