Today, May 1, the world celebrates World Password Day and the holiday of spring and labor, which unites people for the development of their countries and prosperity. This is reported by UNN.
World Password Day
In 2013, Intel created World Password Day to raise awareness of the role of strong passwords in the security of our digital lives.
Since then, it has been celebrated on the first Thursday of May. In 2025, the holiday falls on May 1. Despite numerous tips, the most popular password in the world is still the banal "123456". Some even use only one character as a password.
Research indicates a low level of digital security among young people: a third of teenagers openly share their passwords with others, and about 40% of companies store access in Word documents or Excel files. Most users use the same password for all accounts, often choosing pets' nicknames as keys to personal information.
School Principal's Day
Every year on May 1, the world celebrates School Principals' Day, a professional holiday for people who head secondary schools. The initiator of the holiday was Janet Delaria, a representative of the American Association of Teachers.
Most principals used to be teachers, so they have a good understanding of the educational process from the inside. In their professional activities, they strive for maximum efficiency in the work of the school staff, taking care of the success of both teachers and students.
It is the principal who shapes the general mood and rhythm of school life, coordinates the activities of teachers and maintains discipline among students.
The principal is both a manager, a leader, an organizer, and at the same time a representative of the educational institution to the public, that is, the face of the school.
At the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, school principals proved to be true organizers and patriots. Thanks to their efforts, educational institutions created bases for territorial defense units, school canteens worked almost around the clock, providing hot meals to the military, volunteers and those who could not cook for themselves due to the danger of shelling or shock. Even in such conditions, principals found opportunities to supply food and organize logistics, overcoming difficulties.
Memory of the Holy Prophet Jeremiah
On May 1, believers honor the Holy Prophet Jeremiah. He was born in the town of Anathoth, near Jerusalem, in the family of a priest. Even before his birth, the Lord determined Jeremiah's special mission - to be a prophet to many nations, which he later described in his writings.
Jeremiah's life was not easy: he had to proclaim God's will to the Jewish people, urging them to abandon the path of falsehood, idolatry, and moral decay. He warned that for apostasy and indifference to God's commandments, they would be punished - the destruction of the state and captivity in Babylon.
This day reminds us of the importance of faithfulness, courage, and service to the truth, even when it is associated with pain.
EuroMayDay
On May 1, in parallel with the traditional celebration of Labor Day, Europe hosts EuroMayDay - a day of active citizenship and protest against discrimination and instability in the labor market.
In 2001, a network of Italian, French and Catalan activists called for a EuroMayDay parade on May 1, which was first held in Milan. The main task was to express the most diverse human manifestations in work and life.
This is a modern alternative to the classic May Day, which focuses on the problems of youth employment and the situation of labor migrants.
EuroMayDay brings together activists from different countries, creating a network of social movements that raise topical issues of modern European society. Their goal is to raise awareness of the challenges facing the new generation of Europeans.
International Rhino Day
Every year on May 1, the whole world celebrates Save the Rhino Day to draw attention to the problem of the disappearance of these unique animals.
On average, one rhino dies every 22 hours in the world - mostly due to poaching, which is associated with the demand for their horns in traditional medicine, particularly in Asia.
In different countries, on this day, animal rights activists, environmental organizations, zoos and activists hold actions aimed at education and involvement in nature conservation. It is worth mentioning that the western black rhino was completely exterminated by 2011, and the northern white rhino has virtually disappeared: today there are only two females left alive.
Spring and Labor Day
For the first time, the day of international solidarity of workers was celebrated in 1890 in Austria-Hungary, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, the USA, Norway, France, Sweden and some other countries.
However, this date was not chosen by chance. It was on May 1, 1886 that American workers organized a strike demanding an 8-hour working day. The strike and the accompanying demonstration ended in a bloody clash with the police.
In 1889, the Paris Congress of the Second International, in memory of the Chicago workers' speech, decided to hold annual demonstrations on May 1.
Today, Spring and Labor Day is celebrated in many countries. A holiday that symbolizes the awakening of nature and respect for human labor. This day unites people who work for the development of their countries and the improvement of living conditions.
It is thanks to the tireless work of millions of people that development, stability and prosperity are possible.
