Ukraine will receive Swedish Gripen fighter jets equipped with long-range Meteor missiles. The new equipment will allow for the effective deterrence of Russian KAB-carrying aircraft away from the front lines.

Ukraine will receive the first batch of Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighters equipped with long-range Meteor air-to-air missiles. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Pavlo Palisa, as reported by UNN.

According to Palisa, the transfer of the Gripen will not just be a reinforcement of Ukrainian aviation, but a step toward forming a new defense architecture for Ukraine.

Gripen with Meteor missiles on board will be the "long arm" of our aviation, allowing us to drive away Russian KAB (guided aerial bomb) carriers from the front line. This is an invaluable reinforcement for both our aviation and the protection of our infantry

– he stated.

The Office of the President emphasized that the Swedish fighter was designed for combat operations under the constant threat of enemy air defense, rapid maneuvering, and the use of various operational airfields.

This is exactly the kind of war currently taking place in Ukraine

– Palisa noted.

He added that the arrival of the Gripen will give Ukraine more opportunities to combat Russian aviation, missiles, drones, and other means of destruction.

Separately, Palisa thanked Sweden for its support of Ukraine.

Gripen for Ukraine is a contribution not only to Ukrainian security. It is a contribution to the security of all of Europe

– emphasized the Deputy Head of the OP.

As a reminder

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine has already sent its pilots for training on Swedish Gripen aircraft, and therefore expects that the first fighters with Ukrainian pilots could appear in Ukraine as early as December-January.
