The agency reminded that the debate between Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is officially scheduled for September 10 on ABC, and noted that this debate will be "the first face-to-face confrontation between the rivals in a race that polls show is tight."
Instead, at a press conference at his Palm Beach residence, Trump said he wanted to hold additional debates on September 4 and 25, to be broadcast on Fox and NBC.
"Harris wrote in a post on X that she was looking forward to the Sept. 10 debate after Trump 'finally made up his mind,'" Reuters notes.
According to the agency, the Democratic candidate told reporters that she was open to discussing the possibility of additional debates, "but a spokesman for her campaign reiterated her position that the September 4 debate on Fox TV is off the table.
He added that the discussion of additional rounds depends on Trump's participation in the September 10 debate on ABC.
Kamala Harris's campaign headquarters has already opposed the debate on Fox, saying that the host channel should be the same one that sponsored the recent previous debates of both parties, the agency said.
