U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a three-day truce between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, and also stated there would be a prisoner-of-war exchange in a "thousand-for-thousand" format. Trump wrote about this on Truth Social, UNN reports.
I am pleased to announce that a three-day truce (May 9, 10, and 11) will be declared in the war between Russia and Ukraine. In Russia, this holiday is dedicated to Victory Day, but it is the same in Ukraine, as it also played a major role in World War II. This truce will involve the cessation of all hostilities, as well as the exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each country. This proposal was made directly by me, and I am very grateful for its support by President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
He hopes that this is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly, and fierce war.
Negotiations to end this great conflict, the largest since World War II, are ongoing, and we are getting closer to a resolution every day
As a reminder
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following Russian shelling and assaults on the front today amid the silence announced by the Russian Federation, stated that tomorrow, May 9, "depends on what we hear today" and reiterated that "we have given a completely logical and clear position for them – we will act in an absolutely mirror-like fashion."
