This year, 119 citizens of Ukraine have been recognized as victims of human trafficking since the beginning of 2024. This was stated by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, UNN reports.

Details

Of the 119 victims, 44 were women, 65 men and 10 children (5 boys and 5 girls).

The agency adds that 13 people suffered from sexual exploitation, 8 from labor exploitation, 7 from involvement in begging, 3 from involvement in criminal activities, 1 from the sale of children, 17 from use in armed conflicts, and 70 from other types.

At the same time, by type of human trafficking, 72 people were victims of internal trafficking, 45 were victims of trafficking in other countries, and 2 were victims of other types of trafficking

In , the Ministry of Social Policy emphasizes that anyone can become a victim of human trafficking, regardless of gender, age, social status, level of education, etc.

It is important to immediately recognize the signs of human trafficking: 

  • they took away a passport or other documents;
  • deprived of free movement and communication with their families;
  • promised a well-paid job (abroad or in Ukraine) and then did not pay the promised money;
  • Threatened, beat, raped, mocked, or exerted psychological pressure;
  • physical or psychological violence was used to force them to do work that they did not want to do;
  • forced to work off fictitious debts;
  • the person's labor was used without paying all or part of the promised wages;
  • a person did not have the opportunity to quit his or her job at will;
  • forced to work overtime, while the actual working conditions were much worse than promised;
  • against the person's will, forced to beg, engage in criminal activity, or used in armed conflict and other similar actions.
