The World Food Programme is deeply concerned about recent reports from the US administration that emergency food aid to 14 countries has been suspended.
The organization said that "if implemented, this could be a death sentence for millions of people facing extreme hunger and starvation."

New US budget cuts
Under President Donald Trump, the United States is drastically cutting its spending on international humanitarian aid. In early February, the government began liquidating the US Agency for International Development USAID and terminated numerous programs.
Many experts are concerned about the difficult situation in which the World Food Programme finds itself.
On Friday, the US administration informed the UN Population Fund of the completion of two new programs specializing in maternal and child health.
One is for Afghanistan, worth $24 million (editor's note: 20 million Swiss francs), and the other is for Syria.
USAID has also terminated multi-billion dollar programs to mitigate the effects of global climate change. Trump is an avid supporter of coal use, and in this context there is a specific example with Indonesia, which will have to abandon the huge sums that were actually intended to stop the use of coal in the country.
