The Polish-Ukrainian border has recently become an instrument of pressure for Polish farmers on their own government, which led to a temporary blocking of truck traffic. The situation has now stabilized, and thanks to the electronic queue, drivers can avoid traffic jams. This was stated by the spokesman of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko during a briefing, reports the correspondent of UNN.
The situation with the blocking of truck traffic
"For several days, there was a restriction on the movement of trucks. This concerned the Polish border crossing Medyka, and on our side - the border crossing Shehyni. Polish farmers were at a certain distance from the border, on the highway leading to it, and actually limited the possibility of trucks passing through. Fortunately, this did not last long, and of course, we hope that in the future Polish farmers will not take such actions," Demchenko said.
He noted that even if we analyze the demands of the farmers to the state institutions of Poland, they in no way concerned Ukraine.
"As far as I understand, this was related to the reduction of taxes and the signing of agreements by Poland with other countries. They used the border with Ukraine as a lever of influence on the Polish state authorities," Demchenko said.
Are there any queues now?
"Trucks are moving freely both when leaving Ukraine and when following from Poland. The throughput capacity of each border crossing is provided daily in accordance with the quantitative indicators," Demchenko said.
Regarding the exit from Ukraine, there are no physical queues at the border thanks to the electronic queue. This is a significant help for drivers and carriers. The system informs them when exactly they can arrive at the border and cross it. In addition, it allows you to see the load status of the border crossings and the number of trucks waiting to pass.
"There are no significant queues, especially physical ones, at the moment. But we remember the cases when Polish farmers and carriers previously blocked several directions. This created long delays and inconveniences for drivers who were in vehicles, especially on the territory of Poland," the SBGS spokesman summed up.
Reminder
Polish farmers temporarily stopped blocking the border with Ukraine after negotiations with the minister, and in case of non-fulfillment of their demands by December 10, they promised large-scale protests along the entire eastern border.
