SBU works on version of Russian special services' involvement in Farion's murder

The SBU is checking the version that Russian special services were involved in the murder of Irina Farion. An 18-year-old suspect from Dnipro, who had been preparing for the crime for 10 days, was detained.

The Security Service of Ukraine is working on a version of the involvement of Russian special services in the murder of a public figure and linguist, former MP Iryna Farion. This was reported by the SBU on Friday, UNN reports.

The SBU immediately joined the investigation of this high-profile crime. A set of measures is being taken, and we are studying the suspect's connections both in Ukraine and abroad. And one of the versions is that the services of the aggressor country are involved in organizing this crime. We are checking the involvement of the detainee in the neo-Nazi movement, the center of which is located in the aggressor country

In his turn, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko provided some details of the investigation, which led to the identification of the suspect, an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro. 

"This week we have fully established the timing and timing of this suspect's life during the 10 days he was preparing for the crime," Klymenko said.

According to the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhivskyi, more than 900 witnesses were questioned, 22 forensic examinations were conducted, and more than 9,000 images from 170 CCTV cameras were analyzed as part of the investigation.

According to the investigation, the offender arrived in Lviv by train on July 9 and rented and changed 3 different apartments to disguise himself. He was preparing for the crime by watching the house where Iryna Farion lived for a long time, the SBU said.

According to Ihor Klymenko, a bullet casing was found at the murder scene, which was probably fired from a converted sports pistol.

"Also in the browser history of the suspect's mobile device, search queries were found that may indicate his interest in the activities of various pro-Russian politicians in different regions of the country," the SBU said.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
