Over half a billion hryvnias in bail for participants of the "gas" scheme – preventive measures ordered for 4 suspects in Prykarpattia

Four suspects in the case involving the illegal extraction of 8 million cubic meters of gas have been remanded in custody. Bail amounts reach up to 200 million hryvnias.

In Prykarpattia, a court has ordered pretrial restrictions for four suspects in a case involving the embezzlement of gas from the state gas transmission system worth 203 million UAH, UNN reports, citing the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Details 

On May 21, 2026, the Ivano-Frankivsk City Court considered the motions of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor's Office regarding the selection of pretrial restrictions for 4 participants in a scheme to embezzle natural gas from the gas transmission system of Ukraine. Prosecutors demanded record bail amounts for the suspects—the head and three employees of a private gas production enterprise.

According to the court's decisions, pretrial restrictions in the form of detention with the possibility of bail were applied to all suspects. The bail amounts are 166 million UAH, 200 million UAH, 998 thousand UAH, and 173 million UAH, respectively. 

At the request of the prosecutors, the court took into account all existing risks and the scale of damages caused to the economic interests of the state, the Office of the Prosecutor General added.

A large-scale scheme for the embezzlement of natural gas from the state gas transmission system was uncovered this week in Prykarpattia. According to the investigation, between 2022 and 2025, employees of a private company illegally siphoned from the network and sold on the market 8 million m³ of fuel worth over 200 million UAH.
