Algeria's Iman Khelif and Taiwan's Lin Yu-Ting have been cleared to compete in boxing at the Olympics despite failing two gender tests at the world championships. At the time, a study showed that Helif and Yu-Ting have both X and Y chromosomes, which are usually only found in males.
Afterward, the International Boxing Association (IBA) said that Helif and Yu-Ting had a "competitive advantage over other female athletes". However, the Olympic Games have different rules - so the boxers were allowed to compete.
Helif won the first fight very quickly: her opponent - Italian Angela Carini - gave up after only 46 seconds after the start of the fight. Afterwards, many criticized Helif's participation in the competition.
Iman Helif will face Hungarian boxer Anna Luka Hamori today.
On Instagram, the latter shared a story in which her co-star is portrayed as a muscular beast with horns.
"If she or he is a man, it will be a bigger victory for me if I win," Anna Luca Hamori wrote.
However, she previously stated that she doesn't care about her opponent's gender and noted that she needs to focus on preparing for the fight. Hamori added that she is not going to give up like Karini did.
"In my sports club, it's just men and teammates at home. This is nothing new to me," Hamori said.
