NATO Military Committee to meet in September to discuss programs to support Ukraine

In October, the NATO Military Committee will meet to discuss support for Ukraine. It is planned to establish a NATO security and training mission for Ukraine and launch a NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis Center.

Next month , a meeting of NATO's highest military body , the Military Committee , will be held to discuss further support for Ukraine. This was reported by UNN with reference to a NATO press release .

Details

It is noted that during the personal meeting, the Chiefs of General Staff will discuss the development of military strategy in NATO. Czech President Petr Pavel will join the opening session of the Military Committee.

During the first session, the NATO Chiefs of Defence will discuss the implementation of the decisions taken by the Heads of State and Government of the Alliance at the Washington Summit in July 2024.

As part of NATO's support package for Ukraine, this session will also discuss the establishment of the NATO Security Assistance and Training Mission for Ukraine (NSATU), a new command to plan, coordinate and organize security assistance

Among other topics, they will discuss the launch of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Center (JATEC), "an important pillar of practical cooperation" to identify and apply lessons from Russia's war against Ukraine and to increase Ukraine's interoperability with NATO.

Addendum

NATO adds that  during the second session, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, will brief participants on the implementation of the Deterrence and Defense Plans (DDA Family of Plans).

In addition, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation General Philippe Lavin will brief and inform on the transformation of the Alliance's warfighting in line with the NATO Defense Planning Process (NDPP).

Recall

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has appointed Patrick Turner as the Alliance's senior representative to lead the mission to Ukraine, who will coordinate NATO's efforts and provide an assessment of the situation in Ukraine until it becomes a NATO member.
