Moldovan MPs voted to terminate the state of emergency in the energy sector. The measures were introduced due to damage to power lines after Russian attacks.

The Parliament of Moldova voted to lift the state of emergency in energy, which was introduced after Russian attacks in neighboring Ukraine disabled the power transmission line that supplied most of the country's needs. This was reported by Reuters, writes UNN.

Details

Moldovan officials reported that in March, Russian strikes damaged the Isaccea-Vulcănești line, which supplies electricity from Romania to Moldova, passing through 40 km of Ukrainian territory. This line provides up to 70% of the country's electricity needs.

Deputies supported the lifting of the state of emergency with 69 votes out of 101.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated that the introduction of the state of emergency was not an accidental decision, but a necessary step at a critical moment.

According to him, at that time Moldova faced two serious risks — the burden on the power grid and disruptions in the fuel market.

He added that thanks to these measures, the government managed to avoid fuel shortages.

Recall

On March 23, the Ministry of Energy of Moldova announced the disconnection of the Isaccea – Vulcănești power transmission line. The reason cited was recent attacks on energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine.
